Collection consists of correspondence between Lettie (also called Betty) Burwell of Liberty, Virginia and Edward Everett of Boston, Mass., 6 May 1858- 17 May 1861, primarily discussing the different opinions of the northern and southern states that led to the beginning of the Civil War. Also includes a manuscript copy of a lengthy letter from Burwell's sister Kate Bower to Everett regarding the war, 3 June 1861. The letters of Lettie Burwell are manuscript copies.
